Alex James Conley, age 84, from Preble County Ohio, passed away on June 14, 2026.
He was born on April 14, 1942, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Alex “Bud” and Elsie (Morrison) Conley.
Alex retired from General Motors in 1997 after many dedicated years of service. Following retirement, he found his greatest joy in the simple things—spending time with family, sharing stories, and enjoying the outdoors. He never passed up an opportunity to go hunting or fishing, often rising early and heading out with his children and lifelong friends. Many of those trips were filled as much with laughter and storytelling as they were with the day’s catch.
He had a knack for working with his hands and took pride in his woodworking projects, creating pieces that his family will cherish for years to come. Whether sitting around the table playing cards or offering quiet advice, Alex had a steady presence and a way of making those around him feel at ease. He especially enjoyed card games with family, where friendly competition and good humor were always guaranteed.
A longtime member of the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research, Alex held a deep and abiding faith that guided his life. He was known for his strong beliefs, his thoughtful nature, and his genuine care for others.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise (Shawn) James of Wichita, Kansas; his son, Greg (the late Deborah) Conley of Richmond, Indiana; his brother-in-law, Jack Baker of Arcanum, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his steady presence, stories, and quiet strength.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott Conley; and his sisters, Paulette Baker, Patricia Halco, and Charlotte Johnson.
Alex will be remembered for his love of family, his enjoyment of the outdoors, and the many memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
There will be a memorial at a later date. Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Eaton is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences and other remembrances may be sent to the family by visiting www.gardfuneralhome.com.
