Billy E. Kastens, age 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at his residence in West Alexandria, OH. He was born in Washington County, VA in 1934.


In his 34-year career at General Motors, Billy dedicated himself to his work with passion and commitment. Beyond his professional life, he found joy in various hobbies and interests such as bowling - where he proudly bowled and worked at Southwestern Bowl/Preble Lanes for many years - and tending to his yard which brought him peace and satisfaction.  One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their many sporting events.


One of Billy's proudest accomplishments was his 32-year tenure as a volunteer firefighter for the West Alexandria Fire Department. His selfless dedication to serving his community in times of need will always be remembered and cherished by those whose lives he touched.


Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry E. and Irene Kastens, his brother Jimmy Kastens, his sister Alice Dulsky, and son-in-laws Randy Woodard and Russell Schenck.


Surviving family members include his wife Shirley J. Kastens; daughters Virginia "Ginny" Schenck and Cynthia "Cindy" (Ronald) Schmidt; grandchildren Jason (Lindsay) Woodard, Traci (Josh) Sagester, Anthony "Tony" (Rilea) Schmidt and Austin (Molly) Schmidt; great-grandchildren Alexa Woodard, Rylee Sagester, Trey Sagester, Ella Hawk, Shelby Sagester, Jake Woodard and Theo Schmidt; half-brother Lloyd (Cynthia) Kastens; along with numerous other relatives and friends.


A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in West Alexandria.  Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Alexandria is assisting the family with arrangements.


Billy E. Kastens will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those around him. May he rest in peace knowing that he has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
