Carolyn Jean "Jeanie" Smith, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2024. Carolyn was born in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana on October 24, 1941, to Meryl and Mabel Pence. She grew up on her family's farm in Eaton, Ohio, alongside her two sisters, Patricia and Cynthia. The farm life instilled in Carolyn a remarkable work ethic that would define her throughout her life. Carolyn met the love of her life, Michael Duard Smith, on a blind date. They were married on June 30, 1962, in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio, beginning a loving partnership that lasted almost 55 years. Together, Carolyn and Michael raised four children: Teresa, Lisa, Debbie, and Aaron. Family was at the center of Carolyn's world, and she devoted herself tirelessly to nurturing and supporting her children as they grew. Her greatest desire was to teach her children how to cook, clean, serve their fellow man, and to love the Lord. Carolyn was known for her selfless nature and creative knack. She wanted her home to be a happy place for all to enjoy; she had a passion for cooking and baking, and her children, their friends, and neighbors all clamored for her homemade goodies. Carolyn delighted in holiday decorating and creating beautiful table settings. She dedicated herself to establishing enduring family traditions that her children would cherish and continue. Carolyn also enjoyed crafting, particularly quilting and card-making, and could always be found making gifts for family members and friends. Carolyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After her conversion to the gospel, she was a powerful force in the Church, and was never afraid to open her mouth and share her beliefs with those around her. She was instrumental in the conversion of several neighbors and friends, and her missionary work will continue to bless generations to come. She served faithfully in numerous callings, served two Church Service Missions at the Brecksville Home Storage Center and the Bishop's Storehouse and worked at the Cedar City Temple as a Temple Worker. She had a passion for genealogy work and completed multiple generations on her side. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and hard work will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends for generations to come. She is survived by her children, Teresa (Ty), Lisa (Brian), Debbie (Tug), and Aaron (Sydney); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Patricia and Cynthia; and numerous extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and grandchild, Nathan Grimshaw.
