Dr. M. Douglas “Doug” Reed

Dr. Marvin Douglas “Doug” Reed, was born on June 10, 1938, in Wheelwright, KY, to the late James and Helen (Clark) Reed. At age 88, Doug passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after bravely enduring Alzheimer’s and cancer, to which he earnestly applied the steadfastness of the Word and his faith. In the days prior to his gentle passing, his family surrounded, sang to, and lovingly cared for him.

At age 18, he gave his life to his Savior the Lord Jesus and was baptized. Wanting to give his life to his Lord, who suffered and died for him, he devoted his life to him, serving, encouraging, and guiding many people in various capacities: missionary, teacher, college administrator/president professor, clinical psychologist, forensic examiner, and as husband, Dad and Papaw. Doug married the love of his life, Judith Adams on August 26, 1961, and together they shared 60 years of the sorrows and joys of life, until her death on January 21, 2022.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by their 2 children: daughter, Lisa (John) Hand, and son Todd Reed; 7 grandchildren: Jessica (Isaac) Miller, Chelsea (Austin) Bowman, Brittany (Andrew) Frantz, Samantha Hand, Whitney Metzger, Samuel (Alyssa) Hand, Rachel (Nolan) Oyler, and Joseph Hand; 26 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jim Reed, Gary Reed; 2 sisters, Donna Harrison and Nadene Zimmer; one sister-in-law, Patti Reed; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends and associates.

Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn Wise Adams and Marguerite (Nave) Adams; one sister, Anita Dearwester; 4 brothers-in-law, Chester Stroud, Bill Dearwester, Raymond Harrison and Tom Zimmer; 4 sisters-in-law, Lovelock Hopkins/Reynolds, Peggy Stroud, Jacqueline Bartholomew, and Ann Reed; and 2 nieces, Becky Reed and Susan Stroud.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm until time of funeral service at 3:00 pm at the Gard Funeral Home, 226 W. Main Street, Eaton, OH 45320. Burial and committal service will follow at the Lower Twin Old German Baptist Church Cemetery, 6715 Quaker Trace Road, Camden, OH with a meal following in the church basement. All are welcome.
