John H. Pence, age 77, of Eaton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 15, 1948 in Richmond, Indiana.
John graduated Eaton High School Class of 1966. He was an active member of Future Farmers of America during his high school years, enjoyed showing dairy cattle and steers at the Preble County Fair and learning farming. He served many years in the Air National Guard and was activated to Air Force in 1968 when he was sent to South Korea during the Pueblo Incident when the USS Pueblo ship was captured by North Korean forces. Upon returning home, John began farming on the family farm in Preble County. He was 4th generation to operate the family farm. John enjoyed serving as Washington Township Trustee for many years.
John was preceded in death by his father, James F. Pence and mother, Helen LaJune Agler Brooks and brother Joe W. Pence.
He is survived by his brother Jack J. Pence, sisters Jane Pence Slyder and Jacquelyn Pence Beaver; niece Jennifer Slyder Elsas; nephews Jesse Slyder, Jay Slyder and Brendon Beaver. John had the privilege of enjoying 7 great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service (open to the public) will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Mound Hill Cemetery, 130 Camden Road, Eaton, Ohio. Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton or Hand in Hand Adult Day Care, Richmond, Indiana.
