John R. Wambo

John R. Wambo, age 84, of Eaton, OH passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton. He was born May 29, 1940 in Richmond, IN to the late Charles Emerson and June (Hitchcock) Wambo.

John was a U.S. Army veteran who proudly served as an honor guard for General McArthur and President John F. Kennedy’s funeral procession. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Webb Lodge #24 and was a member of the American Legion post #65, both in Richmond, IN. He worked at Dunham Lehr and later retired from McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital where he worked as a supervisor. He was also a member of the Preble County Historical Society. He enjoyed camping, traveling, bird watching, stamp collecting and searching for antiques at local auctions.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Wambo.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda L. (Campbell) Wambo of Eaton; sons Kelly Wambo of Richmond, IN and Robert (Katie) Wambo of Toledo, OH; step-children Laura Bailey of New Paris, OH and Steve Bailey of New Paris, OH; grandchildren Kysen Wambo, Keir Wambo, Leah Wambo, Mason Wambo; step granddaughter Kacey (Stuart) Sullivan; step great-grandchildren Korbin Sullivan, Camilla Sullivan and Larkin Sullivan; sister Barbara (Joe) Cornelia of West Chester, OH; sisters-in-law Kathy Wambo of Centerville, IN and Joy Campbell of Englewood, OH; brother-in-law John (Rhonda) Campbell of Longmont, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until time of funeral at 11:00 am at the Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 226 W. Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastor Rodney Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Preble County Historical Society.
