Lynnette L. Schmidt

Lynnette L. Schmidt, age 83, of West Alexandria, OH passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023. She was born August 4, 1940 in Dayton, OH daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Grimes) Kesling. Lynnette was a 1958 graduate of Twin Valley North High School. She was a very active member of St. John Church. She worked with her stepmother June, making communion wafers. They also ran a ceramic shop, painting, and teaching others to paint. When June passed, Lynnette and Don built a ceramic shop behind their house, and named it Kesling’s Loft. Don poured all the molds and Lynnette painted and taught classes. They traveled to many local craft shows selling painted ceramics. After selling the ceramic business, she worked at Lee Plastic Co. in Eaton, and also volunteered her time at the School cafeteria. In addition to her parents, Lynnette was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Donald Schmidt; daughter, Amy Padgett; sisters, Onda Vee Hofacker and Carole Warrell; and son-in-law, Corey Mangan. She is survived by her daughters, Angie (Kris) Schmidt of Ostrander and Ann Mangan of Lewisburg; son-in-law, Dave Padgett of Kentucky; grandchildren, Ben (Heather) Mangan, Kelsey (Robert) Taylor, Makenzie & Dylan Padgett; great grandchildren, Sawyer and Ana Mangan and Lilianna Taylor; sister, Cheryl Henry; as well as numerous other family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 5-7pm at St. John Church (20 East South Street, West Alexandria, OH 45381). Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11am. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in West Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Lynnette’s name to St. John Church or Preble County Council on Aging for the Meals on Wheels Program.
