Marion Jean Wetzel Seaman, 92, passed away Friday, September 5, 2025 at Arbor Trace Senior Living in Richmond, Indiana. Jean was born March 11, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late George E. Wetzel, Sr., and Marion Althea Williams.
Raised in Akron and Portage Lakes, Jean fondly remembered her childhood, telling stories of her love of dance, starting lessons at the age of 6, and for 12 years performing in recitals. Jean also enjoyed the beautiful summer days spent at Portage Lakes swimming, picnicking, and sleep-overs with her maternal grandparents.
Jean graduated in 1950 from Coventry High School and went on to pursue her education at Kent State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1954. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority where she served as President. In 1955 and 1956 she taught elementary school students in Parma, Ohio and Tulsa, Oklahoma and later taught as a substitute teacher.
It was at Kent State that Jean met her husband, Joseph Robert "Bob" Seaman, and they were married May 9, 1953. Jean happily settled into married life and selflessly dedicated herself to raising her four children while always being supportive of her husband’s teaching and football programs at numerous high schools and colleges. In Jean’s married life she and Bob moved 17 times and Jean enthusiastically adjusted well to the moves and made friends wherever she went. After retirement, Jean and Bob enjoyed living in Florida until returning to the area to be with family.
After 55 years of marriage, Bob passed away on August 13, 2018. Jean leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Jo Ann (Steve) Trede of Richmond, Indiana, Paty Asher of Austintown, Ohio, and Kay (Edward) Sisko of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Wilmot, Bradley Trede, Courtney (Brandon) Wrobel, Drew and Devon Asher, and Jay and Ryan Sisko; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jakob, Connor and Abigail Trede.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Robert E. Seaman; brother, George E. Wetzel Jr. and her beloved Shih-Tzu Bo.
A private committal service for Jean and Bob will be scheduled at a later date in Akron, Ohio.
Jean’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Arbor Trace for the compassionate care they provided for her.
