Nancy Margo Bigham

Nancy Margo Snyder Bigham, age 81, of New Paris, OH passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, IN. She was born April 12, 1938 in Eldorado, OH to the late Harlan G. and Emma I. (Geeting) Snyder. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gale W. Bigham of New Paris; daughters April F. (Bret) Weldy of Lewisburg, OH and Sharon K. (Dickey) Arnett of New Paris, OH; son John A. (Sandy) Bigham of New Paris, OH; grandchildren: Allen C. (Sarah) Weldy of Mitchell, IN, Dustin M. (Tara) Weldy of West Manchester, OH, Regan (Zac) Shisler of West Manchester, OH, Dayna M. (Jeremiah) Conway of West Manchester, OH, Michael W. (Samantha) McAtee of Covington, OH, Erin (Joe) Mills of Oxford, OH, Corey (Kari) Arnett of Oxford, OH, John A. Bigham, Jr. of New Paris, OH, James W. Bigham of New Paris, OH and Jessy Bigham of New Paris, OH; 17 great grandchildren; brother Albert (Melody) Snyder of Englewood, OH; sisters Karen(Ron) Hensel of West Manchester, OH, Sandra Beckett (Chuck Leis) of Eaton, OH and Janet Woltja of Eaton, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and dear friends. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Preble County and was a 1956 graduate Monroe Central High School in West Manchester, OH. She attended the Earlham College/Reid Hospital Nursing Program in 1956 & 1957 and served many patients and worked with several doctors throughout her career. Nancy made the decision to retire in 2009 from Central Furniture & Carpet in Boston, IN. She attended Prices Creek Church of the Brethren in West Manchester, OH, Full Gospel Temple in Eaton, OH and most recently at the Bridgeview Baptist Church in Castine, OH. She delighted many congregations over the years with her musical talent; including playing the piano, organ or singing with the “Snyder Sisters Gospel Singing Group”. Anyone that knew her, would know that she delighted in cooking for those she loved, which led to her to a collection in excess of 1,000 cookbooks collected across the country. She was also an avid supporter of Gale’s woodturning passion. As her health declined, she would simply sit by her window with a book and watch “her” birds. Nancy’s steadfast faith in her Savior led her to be an active part of the Emmaus Community where she made many dear friends. She wanted everyone to know that this final phase of her life on earth was what she prepared her 81 years for. She knew with great confidence where she was going to spend Eternity. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH. A memorial service will be held the following day on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 10:00 am at Bridgeview Baptist Church, 4811 State Route 722, Castine, OH with Pastor Bryan Rea and Dr. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Interment will be private at Wares Chapel Cemetery in West Manchester. OH. Nancy has asked that you not send flowers but assist in supporting a young missionary family serving God in the Philippines: (specify Eleseph Dulay family) c/o Independent Baptist Mission for Asians, 103 Masonic Park Road, P.O. Nancy was a wonderful person. She and I worked many Emmaus walkes together. She hasn't been well for several years but now she is completely healed. She now sings and cooks for our LORD, and some day we will meet again.

My cherished friendship with Nancy began about 5 years ago when I got to know her and Gale through Gale's woodturning and seeing her at art and craft shows. We became friends and shared our common loves of cooking and gardening (irises in particular.) I so enjoyed our chats by her window to "her birds" as we watched and identified who was flying around that day. Her open, loving and positive spirit serves as a model by which I will continue to measure my own. She remembered remarkable details about people because she believed it was important. She told me about memories of my Mom and my aunt Marilyn as they grew up near each other and both went to Monroe Central. I will miss my dear friend but I know she is watching over all of us who loved her. Hugs for dear Gale and their children and other family members.
