Richard A. “Dick” Parks, age 78, of Eaton, OH went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long hard fought battle with cancer. He was born November 6, 1946 in Richmond, IN to the late Herman “Peanut” and Sara Parks.
Dick grew up in West Manchester where he loved to be outside and get into mischief with the guys. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1964. He was a U.S. Army veteran that served during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967 and was a life member of the American Legion Post #665, West Manchester. Dick married Peggy Trump on July 11, 1970 and they lived a wonderful life together for 55 years. He was a former member of the Lions Club in West Manchester and was a member of the Campbellstown United Church of Christ. Dick worked at Cargill in Dayton for 17 years and later retired from Harvestland Co-Op in Eldorado. Dick was loved by many and never knew a stranger. He was known for his sense of humor and willingness to help others. The most important thing to him was his family and friends that were like family. Even in his final days, he said his family was the most important thing to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jim Parks.
He is survived by his loving wife Peggy Parks of Eaton; daughters Christy (Travis) Cassel and Suzie (Tim) Davis both of Eaton; grandchildren Austin (Samantha) Cassel of Solon, OH, Madison Cassel of Washington D.C., Brady Davis of Eaton and Trevor Davis of Eaton; great grandchildren Liam and Leia Cassel both of Solon, OH; brother Ted (Barbara) Parks of Milford, OH; sister-in-law Joanne Parks of Eaton; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 10:00 am until time of memorial service at 12:30 pm at the Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 226 W. Main St. Eaton, OH 45320. A private inurnment will be held at Wares Chapel Cemetery in West Manchester. Memorial Contributions may be made to Monroe Township Food Bank, 1060 Foos Road, West Manchester, OH 45382.
