Thomas Gilbert

GILBERT, Thomas F., age 85 of Eaton, OH. formerly of West Alexandria, OH. died Sat. July 6, 2019 in Dayton.  He was born in West Alexandria, OH. on Jan. 19, 1934 to Frank and Susie (Eck) Gilbert.  He was a graduate of West Alexandria High School and was an Army veteran and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  Tom was a long time employee, and eventual owner of West Alex Grain and Coal Company, and later operated Mr. Goodgras Company. He was also involved in many community activities, including, the Preble County Pork Festival, West Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in starting the West Alexandria Oktoberfest. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Gilbert, Eaton, OH., 4 children, Deborah Weir (Paul Haydon), Eaton, OH., Darlene (Tim) Bassler, West Alexandria, Oh., Phil (Denise) Gilbert, Kenosha, WI., Dana (Del) Boyd, West Alexandria, Oh., 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, a sister, Helen Novak, New Lebanon, and nieces and nephews  He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, Clarabelle, Annamarie, Clyde, Aaron, Donald and Everett.  A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Sat. July 13, 2019 at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, OH.  Friends may call at the funeral Home on Sat. from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at 10:30 A.M. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the Veterans Administration.
